The GRUBB Centres, in Belgrade and Niš welcome young people four hours a day, five days a week. They can come whenever they want to get help for their homework or to participate in artistic programmes. The only obligation is to be enrolled in a state school. In a relaxed and studious atmosphere dedicated teachers help them get better marks and pass their exams. They also help with literacy and filling gaps in their levels of knowledge due to various social reasons.
GRUBB’s participants are offered a wide array of regular artistic workshops : music, dance, theatre, rap, photography, video. International artists come regularly to offer special workshops and master classes. Through these activities the children acquire a variety of skills while celebrating their culture and taking pride in their roots. Parents are always welcome for an informal chat about their children, we value their input, and they feel that they are part of the GRUBB community. We also organise gatherings with the parents.
18 years ago we had a small number of very shy girls amongst our participants. Today we have 60% of girls who are extremely active in all projects.
With a growing number of partners we organise projects with Roma and non Roma youth to promote social inclusion through shared activities.
Our young people are invited to participate in many cultural and artistic events throughout the year, in theatres, schools, cultural centres, museums, festivals, television, radio, street celebrations, etc. Interaction with audiences is always a source of enrichment for both our performers and their audience.
